5 Must-Have Apps to Use in Europe
If you’re coming from the States, not all the apps we use here will work in other parts of the world. In our most recent trip to Europe (mainly Italy and France), I downloaded multiple different apps to use during our stay and these are the top 5 must-have apps I recommend using during your next vacation in Europe. Note this is mainly for IOS or Apple phones.
1. Trainline App and Italo Treni
The Trainline app can be used all around Europe and this is mainly what we used during out stay in the South of France. When we went to Italy, we had better results with Italo Treno which is why I’m grouping both together but for a majority of the places in Europe, Trainline will be best to use especially if you’re city hopping. Be sure to purchase your tickets as soon as possible and arrive at the train station at least an hour before and keep an eye out for the departure lanes because they do change sometimes at the last minute.
2. Google Translate
This might seem like a no-brainer but Google Translate will be your best friend in any country if you don’t speak the language. You’re also able to translate menus and signs by taking a simple picture and translating it into your language. This was extremely helpful when we went to restaurants with a fully Italian menu even though the waiters did try to help us as much as they could.
3. Free Now
If you have Uber, it does work in some parts but We Taxi is the one primarily used and what we used to order Ubers or taxis. Some of the drivers did not speak English so we had to message them and communicate that way. Another option when coming and going from the airport is to have your hotel schedule a taxi for you which makes things a bit easier because the price is told up front.
4. Holafly or Airalo
These are prepaid sim apps where you pay for data for a select number of days. We downloaded it and found out your phone has to be completely paid off or jailbroken for it to work so unfortunately we weren’t able to use either of these and just used data from our carrier but these apps are much, much cheaper than going with your carrier.
5. Get Your Guide
Another no-brainer but this was my absolute go-to app to use, especially in Italy when we booked certain tours and excursions. They have deals all around Italy and I especially recommend booking a Colosseum tour in Rome and a boat tour in Lake Como if you have time (we didn’t unfortunately but looked so beautiful).
These are the apps I recommend and I hope you find them helpful on your next trip to Europe! Thanks for reading!
